Luxury Bronze Hardware

Glass Door Knobs technical specifications: What are the options?

Our luxury glass door knobs can be made to a variety of technical specifications to suit various applications from mortice doorknob to fixed door pull. Here we describe the main options:

Mortice glass door knob: By door knob, we generally mean a turning mortice knob used on internal doors to operate a latch mechanism via a square spindle. Turning mortice doorknobs are assembled to a round back-plate which is secured to the door with attractive wood screws made of solid brass. Mortice glass doorknobs are cast around an insert with a square hub for an 8mm spindle. Our unique savoir-faire allows for the insert to be cast, making the binding that much stronger and safer than ordinary glass door knobs.

The inserts are designed to be a feature of our glass door hardware, made to jewellery grade standard, with exquisite knurled detailing around the neck that also improves binding between the two materials; they are beautifully hand-polished and can be specified in a choice of finishes (see below).

Fixed glass doorknob: It is also possible to order all our glass doorknobs in a Fixed version. Fixed doorknobs can be used as a dummy on the slave door in case of double doors; they are also used back-to-back on Push-Pull doors; or on wardrobes or other situations requiring a full-size Pull knob. The insert for fixed doorknobs is threaded to take an M10 bolt. Fixed doorknobs can also be installed back-to-back on a double-ended bolt.

Fixed doorknobs can be supplied assembled to a round back-plate, like mortice doorknobs. Alternatively we provide the option of supplying them without a back-plate, in which case we modify the base of the knob so that it sits flush on the door. This configuration is recommended when fixed doorknobs are being used on glass doors.

Glass installation: We can provide a glass installation set including soft washers and a nylon sleeve to house the fixing bolt.

Glass Doorknobs finishes: What are the options?

Whatever the design, all our glass doorknobs can be made with a choice of metal insert: whilst nickel has been the metal of choice historically, we can also produce our luxury glass doorknobs with a brass insert; or the insert can be patinated to an antique bronze finish; and we are very excited to now offer a solid rose bronze insert, similar in colour to a pale rose gold.

As the majority of our doorknobs are custom-made, it is also possible to specify that the insert be highly polished or satin.

Round-back plates are available in the same finishes as the inserts. It is possible to order split finishes for the insert and the back-plates.
